Understanding Campus Technology Support

Choosing the Right Tech Group for Your Event:

Whitman College has two distinct technology support groups, each specializing in different aspects of event technology. To ensure your event gets the right support, it’s important to understand the differences between them.

Classroom & Event Technology (CET) Support

CET provides technical support for spaces equipped with built-in technology, including projectors, lecture capture, and other AV equipment. This service is primarily used for faculty- and staff-hosted events or academic-related programming. CET ensures that all in-room technology functions properly and provides support for:

  • Projection and display systems (e.g., classroom projectors, auditorium screens)

  • Microphones and audio support (when using built-in sound systems)

  • Lecture capture and event recording

  • Hybrid event support (Zoom/webinar integration where applicable)

If your event is in a classroom, lecture hall, or auditorium with installed AV equipment, CET is the appropriate team to assist.

Whitman Sound & Lights (S&L) Support

Sound & Lights specializes in portable audio & stage lighting catering primarily to student organizations, WEB, ASWC, and non-academic events. This group is best suited for performances, concerts, and events requiring custom audio and lighting setups. They provide support for:

  • Live sound reinforcement (including large speakers, mixers, and microphones)

  • Stage and ambient lighting setups

  • DJ and performance audio needs

  • Event production for student-led activities and non-academic gatherings

If your event is in a flexible venue like the Reid Ballroom, a campus lawn, or a performance space, and you need a custom sound or lighting setup, S&L is the right choice.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • If your event relies on existing classroom or auditorium technology, select Classroom & Event Technology (CET) Support.

  • If your event requires additional sound equipment, stage lighting, or a customized AV setup, select Whitman Sound & Lights (S&L) Support.

Still unsure which team fits your needs? Feel free to reach out, and we’d be happy to guide you!
