Wireless network enables properly-equipped computers to connect to the internet and/or campus network without a network cable. The wireless network works by radio—network card in your computer transmits and receives information from network-access-points installed across the campus by high-frequency radio waves. Wireless is available throughout the Whitman campus, including some outdoor areas.
Whitman Wi-Fi Hotspot
Whitman Wi-Fi Hotspot, compliments of Spectrum Networks, is available for any visitor to access the Internet. It is also the wireless network to choose for devices without a web browser or not compatible with the enterprise security and authentication protocols used for whitman_secure (e.g. xbox, wii, and other gaming consoles.)
Connect to the wireless network named whitman_wifi_hotspot .
Open your device's web browser. You should be redirected to a special webpage with more information about the network you are connecting to.
Follow the on-screen instructions to finalize your connection. You can now access the Internet.
Note: If you are visiting campus and need simple access to the Internet, this is the easiest way to get connected. No username or password is required. If you need access to campus network, you must obtain a guest account and use the Whitman Wireless Network.
Whitman Secure
Whitman Secure is for people with Whitman network accounts, to access both the Internet and Whitman resources.
Connect to the wireless network named whitman_secure.
Enter your credentials the first time you connect to whitman_secure.
Smartphone configuration
Some smartphones may require you to configure your wireless configuration. Try these settings:
- EAP method: PEAP
- Phase 2 auth: MSCHAPV2
- CA certificate: use system certificates
- Domain: whitman.edu
- Identity: whitman user id
Ubuntu Linux Configuration
For students using Ubuntu Linux, or those enrolled in Computer Sciences
- Security : WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
- Authentication : Protected EAP (PEAP)
- CA certificate is blank
- PEAP version : Automatic
- Inner authentication : MSCHAPv2
- Username and Password are correct.
