Is my classroom under surveillance? No.
Technology Services is sensitive to the potentially disruptive presence of new technology that has been introduced into the classroom, and we make every effort to safeguard academic freedom and the privacy of your classes. We do so in accordance with Whitman's privacy policy and more broadly with the spirit of the letter of academic freedom.
Apart from providing internet access to the room computers, we have intentionally not independently connected the technology equipment in the room to a network outside of the classroom. This was done to preserve network bandwidth and also as a security measure.
The cameras and microphones in classrooms are setup to prevent outside intrusion: they cannot be accessed without logging into the classroom computer, or without a laptop that you physically bring into the classroom.
If you have questions about the security posture of classrooms, please contact us.
