Virus Protection
Important: The college requires all computers connected to the Whitman College network to have up-to-date anti-virus software installed on them.

Your anti-virus software depends on a file called a DAT file or a Virus Definition file to recognize the latest viruses and worms. Since new viruses appear all the time, you need to download the updated Virus Definition/DAT file on a regular basis. Make sure to configure your software to download/update its virus definition.
If your anti-virus software isn't constantly and consistently updated, it is virtually worthless. Keeping it up-to-date is your responsibility, and is your best defense against the rising tide of malware on the Internet.
In addition to anti-virus software, we recommend that everyone frequently scan their machines with Malwarebytes as well.
