This tutorial relies on an app called “Freemake Video Converter,” which is available here. The free version will allow you to convert videos, but will place a watermark on them. To remove this watermark and unlock the full feature set of Freemake Video Converter, you will need to purchase the Gold Pack upgrade ($19). Instructions for how to get the $19 version are here.← These are important, by default they want you to buy a more expensive package!
- Open Compress Any Video (if you don’t have it, it is available, see above.)
- Add a video file via the "+Video" button or drag and drop the video you are trying to compress into the Freemake Video Converter window.
- Select an output format from the options at the bottom of the window. MP4 is usually a good choice for this.
- Click the size sign. The compressor will give a hint about possible limits to keep the good video quality. This is the default setting. You can choose to select a custom output size limit by clicking on the drop down menu. Set this size as something comfortably under 500 MB, for example 475 MB.
You can also specify where the software will save the compressed video by using the “Save To” option. - Click the "OK" button and then hit the "Convert" button. A window will appear with a progress bar. When the conversion completes, a new window will appear telling you that the process has completed. Click the “OK” button. Then, click the “Close” button.
Congratulations, you’re done! Your video is now ready to go into Canvas!
