Introduction

Whitman College provides VPN (virtual private network) access for employees that allows you to securely connect to our internal network over the internet.

  • This allows you to potentially gain access to resources which are not normally accessible from off campus (example: Colleague).
  • Contact Mike Osterman (director.et@whitman.edu) to request a VPN account.
  • Additionally, you must be enrolled in multi-factor authentication (MFA) to access the VPN service.

Cisco AnyConnect Client

The Cisco AnyConnect Client is necessary for using the VPN. The WCTS Help Desk can facilitate getting it set up on your Whitman-issued computer.

Connecting your computer to the VPN

  1. Open the the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client
  2. Type: vpn.whitman.edu in the blank box and then click Connect
  3. Type in your Whitman username
  4. Type your VPN password (this is not your MyWhitman password)
  5. Type in the desired Duo MFA method in to the 'Second Password' field
  6. Click OK

Verifying your VPN IP address

You can use your web browser to open the following web page:

Display my IP addresses

The web page will display both your "On-Campus IP address" and your "Off-Campus IP Address". Your "On-Campus IP Address" should be 10.20.2.xx where "xx" and a number from 1 to 253.

Disconnecting from the VPN

Locate the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client window and click Disconnect.
